Boston Red Socks
OK, folks, here you go. The 4-ply blog has officially arrived.
Basic, yes, but here nonetheless.
This is where you’ll find info about my knitting, as well as photos of projects. The photos won’t be all that wonderful, and will probably be a bit blurry until I find an affordable digital camera. Until then, my Razr (love it!) cell phone pics are going to have to suffice.
I am a 41-year-old man living and knitting in Boston. I have been knitting on and off since my age was in the single digits. I discovered in my old photo album a really funny picture of me at around age 8 or so (VERY 1970's), sitting on a footstool in a striped shirt with paisley shorts, intensely concentrating on the knitting just inches from my nose – concentrating so hard on it, in fact, that my toes are actually curled under me. I’m definitely going to have to scan it and post it here.
My grandmother taught me to knit all those many years ago, and now I truly thank her for such an amazing gift. I'm still astounded at the end of just about every project that two sticks could transform a piece of string into something so useful/beautiful/creative - you name it - it's remarkable.I enjoy many of the needle arts. Knitting, cross-stitch, quilting, sewing and even crochet (despite the fact that crochet is more of a hook art than a needle art.) Of course, I did have to make one of those ubiquitous crocheted granny square afghans, but other than that and a granny square tank top for a friend, I have been concentrating on knitting for the past few years. My bigger projects since the twelve (12!) scarves I knitted in 6 weeks for family members Christmas ’04 have included the Chain-link Pullover from "Men in Knits", what seems like dozens of knit hats of my own design that I made for friends, the above-mentioned granny square afghan and tank top, a cool hoodie for a friend, and I’ve recently gotten more into knitting socks.
I just completed this pair of Boston Red Socks for my FANatically loyal Sox friend Mark. (Happy Birthday, Mark!!) Cool, huh? One of my more favorite projects. I’m thinking of making another pair and framing them for my office wall.
I’ll keep you posted.
